Women in Plastic Surgery: A Global Commitment
We are proud to share fresh insights from the GCA® Women Task Force, an international initiative dedicated to elevating the role of women in plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive surgery.
In February 2025, leading female surgeons from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Italy, Spain, Taiwan and the United Kingdom gathered in Barcelona for two intensive days of discussion and collaboration. Their goal was clear: understand why women still represent fewer than one in five practicing plastic surgeons worldwide and design concrete strategies to accelerate progress—especially in senior academic and leadership positions.
“True innovation thrives on diversity. By amplifying women’s voices in surgery, we improve patient care and shape a more inclusive future for our field.”
— GCA® Women Task Force statement
Key Findings
Although the number of female residents is rising rapidly, significant barriers remain—ranging from limited research funding to a shortage of visible role models in senior posts. The white paper details practical solutions, including global mentorship networks, targeted grants for women-led studies and industry partnerships that spotlight surgical excellence regardless of gender.
What’s Next
GC Aesthetics® is already translating these recommendations into action. Over the coming year we will:
- Launch dedicated research grants for women surgeons
- Expand our international mentorship programme
- Partner with leading congresses to ensure balanced speaker line-ups
Our commitment is simple: talent deserves opportunity. By investing in women’s advancement today, we build a stronger, more innovative specialty for tomorrow.
